Dr. Andrea Tóbiás - MATE Research
Overview
Dr. Andrea Tóbiás is a research fellow and curator at the National Collection of Agricultural and Industrial Microorganisms (NCAIM). The collection maintains more than three thousand microorganisms (bacteria, yeast, and molds), curates patent and safety deposits, and operates a public collection. She is the curator of bacteria. Her research focuses on microorganisms, mainly yeast, and their agricultural applications. Additionally, she conducts research on the microbiota of different habitat.

Ex situ conservation of genetic resources of rare and endangered plant varieties and microorganisms
Conserving the genetic resources of rare and endangered microorganisms is crucial in Hungary. To reduce genetic erosion and vulnerability, and to support plant breeding, agriculture, and research, these genetic variations must be explored and preserved. Our collection has been participating in this project for more than 15 years. The maintainance of these strains is crutial for all workers of the collection.
