Research Excellence Programme (REP)
The strategic objectives of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE) are to become the leading agricultural university in the region and to become a national centre of agricultural innovation and research, promoting the development of Hungarian agriculture and laying the foundations for a sustainable future. In order to achieve this, the University has embarked on an organisational transformation and culture change that will enable MATE researchers to further develop their performance in an increasingly competitive international environment, alongside quality teaching and strengthening third mission activities.
In this spirit, the University's management has decided to implement the Research Excellence Programme. The aim of the Programme is to focus on MATE's outstanding researchers, supporting them in improving their scientific performance, achieving their research ambitions and increasing their international recognition.
The pilot period of the Research Excellence Programme was implemented between June and December 2023. The research needs identified during this period were incorporated into the design of the programmes to be launched in 2024 and 2025.
More information is available in the call for proposals.
International PhD Scholarship of the Research Excellence Programme
The International PhD Scholarship of the Research Excellence Programme is a new pilot initiative in 2026 within the framework of the Research Excellence Programme.
The Programme has been established to strengthen MATE's international research excellence by attracting outstanding international PhD students who are capable of contributing to the University's strategic research priorities and long-term scientific development.
The 2026 call represents the pilot phase of the Programme. Based on its outcomes and institutional experience, the University intends to further develop and expand the Programme in the coming years as an integral component of MATE's internationalisation and research excellence strategy.
