Ákos Mendel is a research fellow at the Institute of Horticultural Sciences, Research Centre for Fruit Growing. He has completed his PhD studies in 2023 in the Doctural School of Plant Sciences. He serves as chair of the Apricot research group at Cegléd. His research focuses on apricot cultivars, breeding, and orchard management. His expertise lies in abiotic stress and fruit quality. 

Ákos Mendel’s work contributes to questions of how can specific apricot cultivars avoid drought, heat or frost damage, and witch are the main factors of a cultivation system, that can help prevent these abiotic stresses coming from climatic changes.

Across his research, he uses photometric, PCR, qPCR, HPLC, and other measurement systems, as well as classical analytics, organoleptic testing and several manual measurements.

He authored and co-authored several research articles in high-impact scientific journals. He has more, than 70 accessions at MTMT. 

Ákos Mendel has collaborated with EUFRIN Apricot and Peach working group across Europe.
