Overview

Moaaz Kabil is a final-year PhD candidate at the Doctoral School of Economics and Regional Sciences at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE). He also serves as a lecturer at the Faculty of Urban and Regional Planning at Cairo University, Egypt. His research focuses on tourism development strategies, emphasizing the relationship between tourism as an economic sector and urban and regional planning.
Moaaz's work addresses sustainable and regenerative tourism development strategies and policies across various sectors, including coastal, rural, cultural, and urban tourism. His theoretical research explores how tourism development can contribute to sustainable economic growth in countries and regions.
Moaaz employs multiple qualitative and quantitative research methods, including Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Free Disposal Hull (FDH) Analysis, Efficiency Analysis, Bibliometric Analysis, and Business Model Canvas Analysis. He is also proficient in using various software, including R programming language, Python, and GIS.
Moaaz pioneered the development of tourism strategies and policies. He designed and executed many tourism strategies and policies, such as the application of the blue economy approach in coastal tourism development.
He authored and co-authored 23 research articles in high-impact scientific journals. His publications have received 472 citations, and his h-index is 12. 95% of his published articles appear in Q1 and Q2 Web of Science and Scopus indexed journals, such as Tourism Planning & Development and the Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism. Moaaz has collaborated with around 10 research groups across Europe and worldwide, from Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Morocco, Hungary, China, Syria, and Iran. He was awarded a prestigious scholarship by the Hungarian Government.
He is an Associate Editor of the special issue in the Sustainability journal (MDPI) entitled "Tourism's Resilience in the Context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)." Finally, Moaaz's expertise has been further acknowledged through his service as a reviewer for esteemed international journals such as Current Issues in Tourism, Cogent Social Sciences, Sustainable Environment (Taylor & Francis), Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management (Elsevier), and Land, Sustainability, and Geographies (MDPI), focusing on the areas of tourism development and planning.
