Members of the Research Excellence Programme (KKP) learnt more about research funding

A thematic workshop on research funding was held in the framework of the Research Excellence Programme (KKP) on Wednesday 16 October 2024, from 13.00 to 16.00, this time online. 

The event was opened by Dr. Zoltán Kovács, Rector's representative for science strategy and Head of the programme. The first half of the event included plenary presentations on "Research funding models and frameworks". First, Dr. Gyula Kasza, Professor Emeritus of the Institute of Food Science and Technology at MATE, Head of the Food Economics Research Group of the University of Veterinary Medicine, gave a presentation on "Self-sustaining research - practical experiences in the field of research funding", followed by László Nagy, Head of the Directorate of Tender Management and Innovation Management at MATE, who spoke about strategies and trends in research funding at MATE. Afterwards, Mónika Kocsis-Kiss, Head of Unit of the Directorate for Proposal Management and Innovation Management, gave a presentation entitled "Preparing for 2025-2027 - what are the directions of Horizon Europe?". Afterwards, Balázs Huszthy, Head of the Innovation Centre of MATE, presented the linkages between priority research and MATE's partner network. The plenary session ended with a presentation by Dr. Arnold Csonka, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Agricultural Logistics, Trade and Marketing, Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics, MATE, on the research support services provided by the Accelerate and Entrenovators projects. 

After a short break, the programme continued in two parallel sessions. In one session, participants were informed about national and in the other about international grant opportunities and experiences. In the latter, the first presentation was given by Mónika Kocsis-Kiss and Dr. Mónika Varga, KKP member, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Animal Sciences, on Research funding proposals: Horizon Europe and partnership opportunities (in particular CL6, CL5 cluster, Widening and ERC opportunities), presentation of the 2025 work programme. This was followed by a presentation on other international funding opportunities (Interreg, Cross border, V4, etc.) by Mónika Kocsis-Kiss and Dr. Lola Virág Kiss, Flagship Research Groups Programme (KKCs) member and Research Associate at the Institute of Wildlife Management and Conservation. 

In the Hungarian section, Gabriella László, Tender Officer of the Directorate of Tender Management and Innovation Management, Ádám Lovas-Kiss, PhD, research fellow of the Ecological Research Group of the HUN REN Centre for Ecological Research on Propagation Ecology and Dr. Attila Gere, KKP-member, Associate Professor of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, spoke about Hungarian research funding proposals (Lendület, "OTKA successors"), and the session was closed with a presentation on market-focused funding opportunities (KFI, GINOP) by Gabriella László and in the light of the experiences of Dr. László Péter Abrankó, Head of a Flagship Research Group (KKCs), Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology.
