KKP Summer workshop on increasing visibility
The second summer professional meeting of the Research Excellence Programme (REP) took place on Friday, 21 June 2024, in the spirit of increasing the quality of university publishing at the Georgikon Campus in Keszthely.
After their arrival, the participants were welcomed by Dr. László Rózsa, Campus Director General, in the conference room of the Keszthely campus, and then Dr. Zoltán Kovács, Programme Manager, welcomed the participants and opened the meeting. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of increasing visibility through improving the quality of our publications and announced the next professional meeting of the programme, which will be organised in Szarvas on 5-6 September, covering the priority research areas of MATE.
The first professional block started with a presentation by Dr. Zoltán Lakner on "Some modern methodological paradigms and tools for effective research and sexy publications". In an interesting and inspiring presentation, Professor Lakner summarized the different types of review articles, and then presented methods and analytical techniques that effectively support scientific literature research and the compilation of review articles through his own example.
After lunch, a small-group workshop entitled "The potential of meta-analysis and review", moderated by Dr. Anna Mária Csergő, Professor Zoltán Lakner and Dr. Gábor Markó, with the assistance of Professor Márta Ladányi, Dr. Viktor Varjú and Rita Végh, who have considerable experience in the field, started in the professional block. The focus of the session was to explore the differences between review and meta-analysis, including the challenges and opportunities based on the experiences and opinions of the participating researchers. The session contrasted meta-analysis with review analysis techniques. At the end of the small group discussions, the moderators of the groups summarised the key lessons learnt and summarised the good practices that can be achieved through the 'bumpy road' of meta-analysis and review.
As part of the community-building part of the programme, the research excellences were given an insight into Dr Anna Mária Csergő's reciprocal transplant experiment in the campus Botanical Garden, an international research collaboration she initiated last year. The spectacular experiment, equipped with rainout shelters, investigates local adaptation using the example of the Ribwort Plantain (Narrow Leaf Plantain). The research revealed is an excellent model for MATE's cross-campus, international collaboration. The programme concluded with a guided tour of the Szendrey Major by Dr. Zoltán Tóth, where after an introduction by Dr. László Rózsa, Campus Director General, Ákos Kovács introduced the Riding Stables and Cattle Farm of MATE Tanüzem Kft. and Dr. Gábor Lukács and Angéla Szanati introduced the Szendrey Memorial House.
The preliminary feedback already suggests that the workshop has enriched the participants with valuable knowledge, which can be applied in practice to create further high-visibility collaborations and publications.
